Caito Fisheries History...
John Baptist Caito immigrated to the United States from Sicily in 1885. He fished
for salmon in the Sacramento River and processed them in Pittsburg, CA where he
and his family had started the Western Fish Company.
When the 1906 earthquake destroyed the production facility, Caito formed the
California Western Fish Company and by the early 1920s the company had
production facilities in Santa Barbara, Eureka and Noyo Harbor in Fort Bragg.
The Caito Brothers (Joe, Jim & John) took over operation in 1975 and are the
fourth generation of the Caito family in the business. They currently process
millions of pounds of crab, cod, snapper as well as salmon at their five locations
along the West Coast.
